Corinthians Director of Football Edu has been talking about Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Paulinho.
The 26-year-old has featured just once in the Premier League this season, making a 30-minute substitute appearance against West Bromwich Albion.
That game aside the midfielder has not been included in a single league squad, instead appearing predominantly in the Europa League.
Continuing rumours suggest he could be leaving Tottenham sooner rather than later, but in comments made to Diario Do Grande ABC and late published by Sambafoot.com, Edu ruled out a permanent move.
“We know he has not played much there,” Edu said. “But he is an important player for Spurs, who made a big investment to sign him.
“If we are going to negotiate a deal, it would only be a loan. We could not buy him.”
That could be the best solution for all concerned, with Paulinho surely desperate for more minutes, Tottenham unlikely to use him given the other midfielders at their disposal and Corinthians well aware of what he is capable of.
Only time will tell, but considering Mauricio Pochettino’s recent team selections, it appears the player does not have a big future at White Hart Lane.
