Carlo Ancelotti called former Manchester United target Toni Kroos to persuade him to join Real Madrid.
Former Manchester United target Toni Kroos has revealed to the Spanish press how Carlo Ancelotti called him up to tell him how he could make Real Madrid a better team.
The German international joined Los Blancos last summer from Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich in a deal reported to be worth around €25 million.
He was previously heavily linked with a move to the Red Devils as a controversial contract situation in Munich prompted United to carefully monitor his state of affairs.
However, following the sacking of former United boss and keen admirer David Moyes, the speculation over an Old Trafford move soon started to dry up.
“Ancelotti told me that he needed me and he has given me a central role in the team. He told me during a telephone conversation that I could make Real Madrid better.” He explained.
“The coach wants a little bit more balance in the team’s play, a little bit more control. He told me that he wants to further improve our play, that he wants to change it, with the intention of having more phases with possession of the ball. And therefore, he told me that he needed me.”
Kroos has started all 11 La Liga games for the Champions League holders this season and played a key role in the recent 3-1 El Clasico victory over rivals Barcelona.
The 24-year-old’s stock has grown tremendously over the past two and a half years and statistically he was rated as Germany’s best player during their recent World Cup triumph.
