England were supposed to get the better of Slovenia with relative ease today, but the Three Lions fell behind just before the hour mark.
Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson’s own goal in the 57th minute saw visiting Slovenia take the lead at London’s Wembley Stadium in the Euro 2016 Group E clash.
However, England did not have to wait too long to find the equaliser, and it was captain fantastic Wayne Rooney who scored for the hosts.
The Manchester United forward himself earned the spot kick when his darting run into the Slovenia penalty box invited a challenge from Bostjan Cesar.
The 29-year-old former Everton star picked himself up and slammed home the penalty to make it 1-1.
The match against Slovenia was Rooney’s 100th for England, and one can imagine the joy and pride he felt at scoring this evening.
