Spanish international suffered the injury whilst in training with his national team yesterday.
Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea is a man currently receiving plenty of plaudits. The Spanish goalkeeper was the Manchester United player of the month for October after a string of magnificent recent performances.
Now he is a man being praised as perhaps one of the best goalkeepers in the world along with the likes of Manuel Neuer, Thibaut Courtois and Hugo Lloris.
So at the moment, with just Anders Lindegaard and Ben Amos in reserve, he was perhaps the player Louis van Gaal least wanted to pick up an injury at this moment in time.
Unfortunately, that is exactly what has happened.
De Gea dislocated the little finger on his right hand. Now while to some that would seem like a trivial injury, pop it in and get to it, for a professional goalkeeper that is quite problematic.
The Manchester United keeper was expected to start against Germany in the friendly next week, but is now set to miss both that fixture and the one with Belarus later today.
And this is the picture Manchester United fans did not want to see.
The only positive to take is that the dislocation does not seem to be severe and is not on what you might call one of his 'main fingers'.
Hopefully De Gea will be out for a couple of weeks rather than a couple of months.
