David de Gea for Spain U21

A select round-up of the latest news relating to Manchester United

Manchester United are reportedly one of the clubs monitoring the contract situation of West Ham United defender Winston Reid as they look to solve their defensive issues.

The New Zealand international’s current deal expires in the summer, and the Times reports that West Ham have given him until the middle of January to sign a new deal or they will be forced to sell him with a fee of £5million suggested.

Reid would be an unlikely but effective solution for United’s issues at centre-back given his experience and potential availability at a time when few so players move on.

In other news, the BBC reports that David de Gea dislocated a finger while on international duty with Spain, although for now he will remain with the squad.

He will now be assessed by Spain’s doctors but it could be another blow for United boss Louis van Gaal, who has seen the ‘keeper excel this season.
