Edwin van der Sar hails 'tremendous achievement' by Wayne Rooney

Van Der Sar

The Dutch legend has congratulated Wayne Rooney, who is about to play his 100th game for England.

Today could see, and probably will see, history made for Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney.

The England captain is all set to make his 100th cap for England this weekend.

The Manchester United man made his first appearance for his country against Australia back in February 2012, becoming the youngest player in England's history at the time.

Since then he has gone on to make a big money move from Everton to Manchester United, become captain of the biggest club in the world and was made captain of his country this year.

Of course many people are very pleased and proud of Rooney's achievement, including a former team-mate who has also joined the centurion club for his country.

Edwin van der Sar made the 100th of his 130 caps for the Netherlands whilst a Fulham player in 2005, not long before making the move to Manchester United.

And he was quick to show his support for his former Manchester United team-mate on Twitter this morning, as Rooney looks set to follow in his footsteps...
