Reported Tottenham Hotspur target Teofilo Gutierrez netted the winner in Colombia's 2-1 victory over the United States on Friday evening. The River Plate forward headed in Edwin Cardona's cross in the 87th minute as los Cafeteros came from a goal down to secure a morale boosting victory.
Gutierrez's transfer to Europe has been subject to speculation since last summer after his impressive display at the 2014 World Cup and Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino is an alleged fan.
Harry Kane appears to be the future of the club's front-line, but Roberto Soldado is still struggling to score and Emmanuel Adebayor's contract expires this summer - the Togo international could leave even sooner if recent reports are deemed true.
With the club lying in the bottom half of the Premier League table, having won just four of their eleven domestic matches, Pochettino is seemingly ready to make an approach for the Colombian's goal scoring services in the new year.
Nonetheless, the Argentine will hold reservations about his lack of experience in Europe, let alone England. While his age and temperament provide further reason for concern - all things considered, Gutierrez makes Liverpool's Mario Balotelli look like a Saint.
However, speculation linking the Colombian international with a move to White Hart Lane could be short-lived, as the player himself took to Twitter yesterday nullify such rumours:
Disfrutando del gran momento de mi selección y de River plate, agradecería q no me adjudiquen rumores de discusiones q no son ciertas.— Teo Gutierrez (@TeoG29) November 14, 2014
"Enjoying the great moment of my selection and River plate, I am awarded and appreciated, discussing the rumours are not true." - English translation
