Angel Correa will officially sign for Atletico Madrid on Monday or Tuesday.
A year ago and Arsenal became one of the first big teams deciding to make a move for talented Argentine youngster Angel Correa.
The talented attacker was the star man at San Lorenzo in his homeland and was being tipped for a bright future somewhere in Europe.
Arsenal were believed to be eyeing up a £4.5 million move for the player, who was being compared to Manchester City star Sergio Aguero in playing style.
That was 12 months ago, of course Arsenal missed out on the player - he instead signed for Atletico Madrid, much like Aguero did, in the summer.
Atletico boss Diego Simeone was very pleased to spend around €7.5 million to sign the player, who has bags of potential to become one of the best players in European football.
But it looked like Arsenal dodged a bullet, when the move was put on hold.
When the details of why became clear however, that relief turned to universal concern. It was soon revealed that Correa has a heart condition and would require surgery in order to play for the club.
At the time Atletico released a statement:
"Angel Correa will undergo microsurgery in the coming days to resolve a heart condition that was detected during the medical that he took in Madrid on May 28.
"The player has taken this decision after being advised by recognised experts in the field, with the coordination of the medical teams of Atletico Madrid and San Lorenzo.
"Those doctors predict a speedy recovery without any complications."
But still, Correa has not yet played for Atletico.
That is now all set to change. Atletico are ready to confirm the signing after Correa recieved the all clear on further tests of his heart function.
Club CEO Miguel Gil Marin confirmed the news yesterday, telling Spanish reporters, as translated by Inside Spanish Football:
“Everything is ready. We have done all the necessary tests and Ángel is now in perfect condition. We are in the process of finalising a tax issue and then we’ll be all set. We expect that the deal will be completed on Monday or Tuesday.”
While Arsenal fans will not be pleased that Correa is not one of theirs, they will be happy to hear he is ready to finally get his career back on track after a scary period in his life.
