Why Fazio has a point about the team spirit at Spurs

White Hart Lane 4

Federico Fazio has suggested that a stronger team spirit is the key for Tottenham Hotspur.

Tottenham Hotspur defender Federico Fazio believes the key for Tottenham’s chances of rising up the table are unity and a strong team spirit.

The summer arrival from Sevilla has stressed the importance of Spurs improving as a team in comments carried by the Daily Mail and in many ways, he hits the nail right on the head.

Some of Tottenham’s worst performances this season have come when the side has looked disjointed and not collectively focused with the best example being the second half of the 2-1 defeat against Newcastle United at White Hart Lane.

A healthy and strong team spirit can help the side in a number of ways with one of the most obvious being the way it helps players to inspire each other.

If Pochettino can develop and strengthen the team spirit and unity at the club, it will help create an ‘us against them’ type mentality which will be important as Spurs face pressure as they try and secure qualification into the Champions League.

It will also make Spurs a more difficult side to break down and get the better of against the bigger sides over the rest of the campaign.

A good example of where a stronger team spirit can benefit Spurs can be seen from the performance away at Arsenal.

The side played tightly as a unit, they were well supported and they got their noses in front before an equaliser cost them all three points.

That also highlights another benefit for the side of a good team spirit; the fans.

The majority of the fans just want to see their side battling hard and playing together as a team.

The recent boos and criticism of Tottenham’s players from the club’s fans could be toned down if the side was fighting as a unit in every single game, making the supporters proud both home and away.

It may seem cliché for Fazio to suggest that team spirit is the way forward but in many ways he’s got a point.
