Why Adel Taarabt missed QPR's behind closed doors friendly

QPR had a behind closed doors friendly against Millwall this week, but there was no Adel Taarabt.

QPR ensured their players remaining at the club during the international break put their time to good use, by playing in a behind closed doors friendly with Millwall.

There was however no place for controversial star Adel Taarabt in the starting XI, and for one clear reason.

The Hoops confirmed in their match report that the playmaker was missing through injury:

"Adel Taarabt was unavailable for the game owing to a groin strain."

The team did contain several high profile names, including Joey Barton, Niko Krancjar, and Junior Hoilett.

QPR won the game 2-1, thanks to a brace from Matt Phillips, who has made seven Premier League appearances this season so far.

The absent Taarabt's comeback continues to take a hit, in the wake of a very public row between himself and manager Harry Redknapp in recent weeks over his fitness.

A loan star for AC Milan last season, he has made only two substitute appearances for the R's this campaign, and it's looking unlikely he will be ready to step back into the first team when the Premier League resumes.
