On loan Arsenal defender Carl Jenkinson bagged a goal as the England under-21 side were too good for Portugal last night.
After battling to a place in the under-21 Euros next year, Gareth Southgate’s side expressed their quality with a 3-0 win against the Portuguese with the West Ham right-back slamming in after the Portuguese defence went to sleep and forgot about him.
With England building up the play down their left hand side, Jenkinson nudged further forward as the Portuguese shifted to cover the threat from England.
The ball eventually broke through before it was passed across the Portuguese penalty area with Jenkinson finding space to run onto it before slamming home with an emphatic finish.
His performance would have delighted temporary boss Sam Allardyce as well as permanent manager Arsene Wenger, who would have both been keeping a close eye on his progress during the current international break.
