Reported Arsenal target Mattia Destro has been talking about how it feels to play at Roma’s Stadio Olimpico.
Italian website Tuttomercato claimed earlier this week that Gunners boss Arsene Wenger had already made informal enquiries regarding a possible January move for the 23-year-old as he sought to add more fire-power to his squad.
Given the return from injury of Olivier Giroud and the presence of Danny Welbeck and Alexis Sanchez, the rumours seemed somewhat strange. But when Wenger looks at the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United and the goal-scorers at their disposal perhaps another forward would not go amiss.
Either way, Destro has been talking about how it feels to play in front of Roma’s home fans in an interview for GianlucaDiMarzio.com.
“The goal is the primary thing for a striker,” the player said. “It is exciting to score at the Olimpico, but it is even more exciting to hear the entire stadium screaming your name.”
The reported Arsenal target has scored four goals in 10 Serie A games this season and for now is rotating between being a starter and coming off the bench.
His versatility is such that he would be a canny signing for the Gunners, but the way he talks about his home fans, and with a contract until the summer of 2017, it would be hugely surprising if he did move this winter.
