FC Porto, Bayern Munich, Inter Milan, Hoffenheim and Marseille stars all feature.
Those difficult challenges have seen the club linked with plenty of talented players in the transfer market, as the boss seemingly looks for additions to his side, which will benefit the team over the second half of the season.
Here are five of the best names linked with moves to Liverpool over the past week.
Jackson Martinez (FC Porto)
If Liverpool aren’t able to recall Divock Origi from his loan spell at Lille, Martinez would provide a welcome injection into the Liverpool attack from the winter. He’d cost £28 million but hasn’t ruled out leaving Portuguese club Porto.
Xherdan Shaqiri (Bayern Munich)
The Swiss winger was the main talking point at Liverpool before a deal for Lazar Markovic and he continues to be linked with a move to Anfield. He could slot in nicely over on Liverpool’s left hand side.
Mateo Kovacic (Inter Milan)
The 20-year-old has been encouraged to leave Inter Milan if he wants to develop into a more complete player and Liverpool are one of the sides mentioned, with Brendan Rodgers thought to be keen on a potential deal.
Roberto Firmino (Hoffenheim)
A £25 million fee for the Brazilian international may seem steep but it’s a price the Reds may have to pay in order to beat arch rivals Manchester United to his signature. Reports claim Liverpool are still keen on a deal.
Andre Ayew (Marseille)
Ayew would be a good potential signing for Liverpool because he can play in multiple positions across an attack predominantly as a winger or second striker. Reports suggest that Napoli may force the Reds into paying a small fee for him to sign him before his contract expires.
