Marca claims not a day goes by where Arsenal star Mesut Ozil doesn’t regret leaving Real Madrid.
The German World Cup winner joined the Gunners in a £42.5 million deal from Los Blancos on the final day of the summer transfer window in 2013 and has endured a mixed career so far in North London.
Ozil’s Arsenal career initially started well before inconsistency crept into his game as his performances dipped from the levels he set himself at the Bernabeu.
Various reasons have been suggested for Ozil’s dip in form; an off the field dispute with his Dad to a lack of pace in the Arsenal attack and Marca has implied he misses his time at Real Madrid.
“The biggest loser in this story is Ozil, with those close to him saying not a day goes by where he does not regret leaving Real Madrid,” reports Marca.
“The German still has a great relationship with the likes of Ramos and Benzema and watches longingly from afar the titles and good football of Real Madrid.”
Arsenal are currently learning about how to adapt without having Ozil in the team due to his current injury.
He’s confirmed in this international break that he’s likely to be out of action until the New Year, but he could provide the Gunners with a welcome injection of quality ahead of a very important second half of the season.
It’s a big claim from Marca that he apparently misses Real Madrid regularly but even if that is the case, he’s a professional and will focus on trying to back up the FA Cup win of last season with further pieces of silverware.
Ozil is a confidence player and the only way for him to get back to the form he showed at the start of his Arsenal career is to be involved in a winning side.
