Newcastle United defender Ryan Taylor has taken to Twitter following his “hat-trick” for the Magpies’ under-21 side against their Stoke City counterparts on Thursday evening.
The inverted commas are there for a reason, with the 30-year-old slotting two goals in at the right end and the other past his own goalkeeper.
Taylor was stepping up his recovery from a 26-month injury absence that took a huge step in the right direction when he featured for Newcastle against Manchester City in the League Cup last month.
He will still be looking to reach optimum match fitness and games like Thursday night's are the perfect opportunity to achieve just that.
The following day, after a sublime curling effort and a fine free-kick, the Newcastle left-back tweeted, ‘Well that was a funny old hat-trick of goals last night.’
It certainly was but two of them will have had his manager Alan Pardew purring and that can only be a good thing as Newcastle look to continue what has been an outstanding run of recent form.
