95% tackles won, but Leeds United’s Sam Byram needs to improve on his crosses

Sam Byram has been very productive for Leeds United so far in the Championship, but he needs to work on his crosses a bit more.

Leeds United may be closer to the relegation zone than to the playoff spots, but there can no doubt that they have one of the best full-backs in the Championship in Sam Byram.

The 21-year-old enjoyed a breakthrough season with the Whites in the 2012-13 campaign but struggled with fitness issues last term.

This season has been much better for the English youngster, who has (re-)established himself as one of the best young full-backs in the Championship.

The stats prove as much, but there is one key area that Byram needs to work on: his crossing.

As shown above in the table, of the 23 crosses Byram has drilled in 13 league appearances, only four have been accurate.

Of course, the stats do not tell the whole story. There have been occasions when the Leeds youngster’s crosses have been good, but there was no one around to bury them.

One could also ask questions of the strikers’ abilities to get into right positions to take advantage of Byram’s crosses.

Even taking all that into consideration, one has to underline the fact that Byram needs to improve on his crosses.
