Report - United expecting Real offer if talks with De Gea fail

David De Gea Spain

Spanish newspaper Sport claims Manchester United are well aware of Real Madrid's intentions over David De Gea.

Spanish newspaper Sport claims Manchester United already know about an offer from Real Madrid for current number one David De Gea.

De Gea has been linked with a move to the Bernabeu next year, but United are trying to tie him down to a long term deal, which will keep him at Old Trafford for the foreseeable future.

Sport claims that if the contract discussions fall apart, United will listen to the offer on the table from Real Madrid, taking advantage of the situation which has seen them allow Victor Valdes to train with the first team squad as he regains full fitness.

De Gea enjoys a status as United’s undoubted number one and he definitely deserves a new deal because he’s been one of the club’s most consistent players since Sir Alex Ferguson retired.

He’s proven numerous times already this season that he can keep United in big games with big saves and he’s gone a long way to dispelling the myth over the idea that he’s not physically strong enough to be successful in the Premier League.

United can play on the fact that Real Madrid already have two top quality shot stoppers in the form of Iker Casillas and Keylor Navas, which suggests De Gea may not enjoy the same number one status at the Bernabeu that he already benefits from at Old Trafford.

Losing De Gea would be a big blow to Louis van Gaal’s project at United because not only is he a world class player and a key member of United’s defence, he’s extremely popular with fans and doubts could creep in over LvG’s decision making if he lets the Spaniard go, replacing him with an older and rustier player in Valdes.
