MasterCard has announced that holders of MasterCard contactless cards and devices who use them to pay for their travel on TFL’s network on the ‘Fare Free Fridays’ of 14th & Friday 28th November, will have their fares refunded.
The Fare Free Friday campaign will see MasterCard provide visitors to London and commuters with a refund on the two Fridays up to a capped value of £21.80. To take part is simple:
· Use your contactless MasterCard or device to travel on Tube, buses, tram, DLR, London Overground and most National Rail services in London for both the full travelling days of Friday 14th & Friday 28th November 2014
Scott Abrahams, Group Head of Acceptance and Emerging Payments at MasterCard UK&I said: “Like TfL, we believe in contactless payments for the London visitor and commuter. Indeed contactless payments have risen by 352% over the last year in the UK and more locally, the significant take up of contactless since TfL’s launch gives us a reason to celebrate. What better way to do this, than to offer MasterCard contactless card and device holders the opportunity for free travel on their journeys made on the TfL network on Friday 14th & Friday 28th November whilst they are using their contactless card or device.”
MasterCard’s commitment to contactless payments also stretches across Europe with a mandate that consumers will be able to pay with their contactless cards and devices at all point-of-sale (POS) terminals in Europe that accept MasterCard by 2020.
