Arsenal trained this morning, despite the majority of their first-team being away on international duty.
The ones that were left behind had their reasons. Mathieu Flamini has not been considered for French duty in a while. Nacho Monreal has plummeted down the pecking order for Spain. Olivier Giroud is just coming back from injury.
Meanwhile Per Mertesacker and Dan Crowley had different reasons for being left behind. Mertesacker has retired a World Cup winner with Germany. Crowley on the other hand faces a decision on whether to play for the Republic of Ireland or England.
It is no wonder why both nations want him. He has been in sensational form recently and is certainly a midfielder built in the Arsenal mould.
Quick, technically astute and a fabulous passer also, not exactly physically imposing.
This picture certainly demonstrates just that.
He is standing next to the nicely dubbed BFG Mertesacker but he really does look like a child standing next to his dad.
But fear not Arsenal fans. What he lacks in height he more than makes up for in sheer raw talent and ability.
He is certainly one to keep your eye on.
