Newcastle United reveals reason behind Streete recall from Port Vale

Fabricio Coloccini

The 20-year-old defender had been on loan at League One side Port Vale this season but was surprisingly recalled by Newcastle United this week.

Remie Streete could be in line for a surprise Premier League appearance for Newcastle United this term after the club recalled the defender from his loan at Port Vale.

The 20-year-old defender had moved to Vale Park on a month-long loan last October, with the agreement subsequently extended by both parties until January, just last week.

But in a surprise turn of events Newcastle have now moved to recall the player to the Toon first-team squad, with the defender potentially in line for some playing time in the coming weeks.

According to several sources including the Chronicle, the decision comes amid concerns over the fitness of captain Fabricio Coloccini, who this week returned to his native Argentina to visit teammate and friend Jonas Gutierrez, who is continuing his recovery from cancer.

Coloccini suffered a calf injury over the weekend, with Newcastle winning 2-0 away at West Brom and could face some time on the sidelines.

Steven Taylor, meanwhile, missed the trip to the Hawthorns through injury and with Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa loaned out to AS Roma for the season, Newcastle look short on options at the back

The Magpies are next in action against Queens Park Rangers in the Premier League, with Alan Pardew aiming for a fifth consecutive victory in the top-flight.
