Liverpool face missing out on goalkeeper Neto after Fiorentina stepped up their efforts to keep him.
The Reds have been closely linked with the 25-year-old Brazilian over the last month, who is available on a free transfer at the end of the season with his contract set to expire in June.
Interest from the Premier League side has led to Fiorentina holding talks with the stopper's agent, and it is reported they are going strongly.
The Mail reported Liverpool's interest just three days ago, and now Italian journalist Gianluca di Marzio writes the Reds chances look bleak.
His website reports: "Viola are trying to wnsure they do not lose him (Neto) on a free transfer early next year. Neto's agent is working on finding an agreement with Fiorentina, today they had a new meeting.
"Progress was made- there is now confidence a deal will be reached. Fiorentina is looking to lock up one of the most promising goalkeepers in Serie A."
If Liverpool do want to add increased competition in goal for Belgian international Simon Mignolet, it appears they make have to look elsewhere.
