Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick has hailed the ability of Jack Wilshere.
Carrick told The Telegraph he was impressed by the Arsenal star's ability to anchor the midfield in recent international matches, which he himself missed through injury.
He said: "I was not particularly surprised.
"With the ability Jack’s got, he can play pretty much any of those two or three positions in the middle of the park."
Wilshere is likely to get more chances in the position in the upcoming matches, with Carrick again forced to pull out of the England squad with an injury.
This makes him a doubt for the United match against Arsenal on November 22, when he was due to be deployed in defence.
For Wilshere it can provide another chance to show Arsene Wenger why he can be the answer in a defensive midfield position for the Gunners.
It has been a position of need for the club for two seasons now, and the news Sami Khedira wants to stay at Real Madrid looks set to deprive them of a top class transfer target.
Arsenal are said to be prioritising the need to sign a defender this January, with a lack of cover for the injured Laurent Koscielny, and so a solution from within would be just what they need.
