Javier Mascherano and Carlos Tevez both played for West Ham United, but it is the latter who is closer to the club’s fans.
And Barcelona midfielder Mascherano knows that.
‘Carlos had a great time at West Ham and I remember that his history here is better than mine!’ he told West Ham’s official website on Wednesday. ‘I know that he will always be remembered very well by the West Ham fans, just like he was tonight'.
Tevez has gone into West Ham folklore for his heroics in the 2006-07 season. It was the Argentina international striker's goal against Manchester United on the final day of the campaign that saved them from relegation to the Championship.
The former Boca Juniors and Corinthians star has since gone on to achieve great things in his career, winning league titles in England and Italy, as well as the Champions League with Manchester United.
Tevez, now at Italian champions Juventus, was back at the Boleyn Ground on Wednesday when he featured for Argentina against Croatia in a friendly international.
