Arsenal's Mesut Ozil gives German press an injury update, predicts return

Arsenal star Mesut Ozil admits he will struggle to make it back in time for the New Year.

Arsenal record signing Mesut Ozil could be out with injury until 2015.

The German international went down with a knee injury in early October, and despite hopes he was ahead of the original 10-12 week recovery schedule, it appears otherwise.

Speaking last night at the Laureus World Sport Awards, he told German channel Sport1 that he must be patient.

He said: "It will take time. For five weeks I sit out and it will probably take another seven weeks (to get match fit)."

This takes Ozil up to January, meaning he will miss rather than be back for the busy festive schedule of fixtures.

While it's a blow, it actually saves Arsene Wenger an initial headache, of having the fit the playmaker into the side, with Alexis Sanchez playing in a central attacking role at present.

"It is a very difficult time, because a week without football is not easy for me - but on we go."
