Manchester United winger Angel di Maria has given an insight into his relationship with manager Louis van Gaal.
The Argentina international winger joined the Red Devils from Real Madrid in the summer transfer window for a British-record fee of £59.7 million.
One of the reasons Di Maria chose United was the presence of Van Gaal. The Dutchman was appointed as the Premier League club’s boss back in May and formally took charge of the first team after the 2014 World Cup finals.
Di Maria has been one of the star players for United so far this season, and he has now revealed just how the players and Van Gaal are working together to achieve the season’s main objective: finish in the top four of the Premier League and feature in the 2015-16 Champions League campaign.
‘We get on very well’, the 26-year-old told Inside United. ‘He was one of the reasons I came here. I’m very grateful to him because he wanted to sign me. That makes me happy.
‘Also, he’s a person who wants to win all the game, and to take the club back into the Champions League as quickly as possible, so the focus is very much on that. In every training session and every match we want to give 100%’.
United have struggled so far under Van Gaal and results have been disappointing. The Red Devils are currently seventh in the Premier League table with 16 points from 11 matches, two points behind fourth-placed West Ham United.
Di Maria has been in good form, though, scoring three goals and creating 28 chances in nine league appearances. The Argentina international has a 79% pass accuracy, a 53% shot accuracy, and has won 44 of his duels.
