Spanish press: Barcelona were wrong to sell Alexis Sanchez to Arsenal

Alexis Sanchez after first goal Arsenal

Alexis Sanchez's transfer from Barcelona to Arsenal is not working out well for the Spanish side.

Arsenal's season may not be going entirely to plan, but their signing of Alexis Sanchez is looking like a masterstroke.

They convinced Barcelona to sell him for £30 million, and the Chilean has been in superb form, netting eight goals in 10 Premier League games.

Barcelona are very much in the hunt for the La Liga title, sitting on 25 points, only two points behind rivals Real Madrid.

Their season has very much been led by two players however, with Lionel Messi netting 10 goals and Neymar scoring even. Behind that, the next top La Liga scorers for the club across 11 games is Ivan Rakitic on two goals.

The lack of output from the rest of the squad is concerning to those connected to the club, and scrutinising them, with Catalan newspaper Sport lamenting the sale of Alexis Sanchez, who struck 19 goals last season.

The paper wrote this week: "Three players accumulate a total of four goals in the beginning of season, 1 Pedro, 1 Munir, 2 Sandro. Meanwhile, Alexis already has 8 goals in Arsenal as the third top scorer in the Premier League and shows that the club was wrong with his sale.

"The sale of Alexis, in sporting terms, was negative for the club but the club's coffers were increased."

The big point missed perhaps is Luis Suarez, the club's £75 million signing who has only just returned to the club after his extended suspension for the infamous bite at the World Cup.

The former Liverpool man will surely deliver goals for the club, but the failure of others to contribute in the meantime only has eyes from Spain looking wonderingly at Sanchez's form, regretting allowing him to leave so easily.
