The Mirror claims Aston Villa midfielder Fabian Delph would be ‘up for’ a move to Tottenham Hotspur.
Spurs are being strongly linked to poach the England international from Villa Park, with recent attempts from the Midlands club to extend his contract thought to be unsuccessful.
Delph has been one of Paul Lambert’s stand-out players so far this season although central midfield isn’t an area where Tottenham are currently short on options.
“The North Londoners are keen to beat rival interest in the England midfielder, who is set to be available on a free transfer next summer - and Mirror Sport understands the 24-year-old would be up for the move,” reports the Mirror.
For Delph to link up with Spurs at the end of the season, there would surely have to be movement in terms of players going out.
Etienne Capoue, Mousa Dembele, Paulinho and Benji Stambouli among others are all capable of doing a similar job and role to the England man in the middle of the team and it’s difficult to see how he would fit in unless space was created.
The fact Delph is being tipped to move at the end of the season as opposed to this January also creates a potential problem for Spurs and any other side who may be interested in him.
It allows Villa to go back to the drawing board and approach Delph and his representatives again with a fresh set of contract talks.
The problem is that he’s free from January to start talking to sides over a deal for next season, which could see a pre-contract agreement arranged, thus sealing his fate.
If he really is ‘up for’ a move to Tottenham then Pochettino has a lot of work on his hands to accommodate him.
