Manchester United morning news: Reported target rules out move; Valdes claims

David Gea saves against Sunderland

A select round-up of the latest news relating to Manchester United

Manchester United have reportedly brought Victor Valdes to the club with a view of making him their first-choice goalkeeper in the future.

That is the claim of the Independent, with ongoing suggestions that United’s current number one David de Gea could be on his way to Real Madrid.

It is easy to take the two stories and come up with the headline that will have United fans fearing the worst. But the simple fact is De Gea is enjoying the best football of his career and will know his current club are building something very big under Louis van Gaal.

Given Valdes’s age and recent injury record, we will take this one with a pinch of salt.

In other news, the Mirror has published the latest quotes from reported United target Mateo Kovacic.

The Inter Milan player has told the Italian press, “I have a contract until 2017 and my future is with Inter.”

The midfielder has been heavily tipped to move to the Premier League but it seems for now that is not a possibility.
