Liverpool fans have suggested Mamadou Sakho can be the leader in their defence.
A poll in the Liverpool Echo has shown support for Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho as he fights to get back into the side.
The Echo asked readers to vote on whether they thought Sakho could be the leader in Liverpool’s defence, as Brendan Rodgers tries to repair the inconsistency of the side.
At the time of writing, 67% of those who took part suggested that Sakho could be Liverpool’s leader at the back, following his comments on the club’s website where he suggested he had all the qualities to become a key leader of the team.
While it won’t surprise some fans that a player who isn’t in the side is considered the answer, Liverpool’s defence has conceded more goals than Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City so far this season.
Summer signing Dejan Lovren has taken time to settle in while Martin Skrtel is never going to be a refind player in any back four and Sakho could be given a run of games by Rodgers heading into a busy winter period for the club.
