Liam Cooper: Proof Leeds did not make a mistake letting Tom Lees move to Sheffield Wednesday

Sheffield Wednesday 2

Liam Cooper's form for Leeds United compares well to Tom Lees displays for Sheffield Wednesday.

Leeds United allowed defender Tom Lees to leave in the summer, with the centre-back signing with Sheffield Wednesday

The 23-year-old has quickly set about proving his old side wrong, a regular for the Owls this season in the Championship, helping them concede only 14 goals in 17 games, an astounding record in a division so competitive.

Yet it's not all bad for Leeds, who sit just one point behind their Yorkshire rivals in the table, heading into the international break.

In recent games due to suspensions, they have been playing summer signing from Chesterfield, Liam Cooper.

Over the last two matches Cooper has played, he compares well to Lees, suggesting Leeds did not made a mistake allowing him to depart in the summer.

While Cooper has not won any tackles during the two matches, he makes on average more interceptions per game than Lees, records a better passing rate, and wins more aerial duels per appearance.

He even managed to get on the scoresheet in the victory over Blackpool, a feat Lees is yet to manage yet this season.

None of this is admittedly conclusive that Cooper is a better player than Lees, yet it does indicate there is no drop-off in performance.

Lees is benefiting from the change of scenery, and Cooper, who is the same age, has slotted in and negates any feeling that Leeds made a mistake in allowing the Wednesday defender to depart.
