David Ospina is now a well-known goalkeeper who earned a dream move from Nice to Arsenal in the summer transfer window, but he initially started out as a striker.
The Colombia international revealed his strange fact to the Gunners’ official website, and said that he is happy with the transformation.
‘No’, Ospina said when asked if he was always a goalkeeper. ‘I started out as a striker scoring goals.
‘But as fate would have it, we were missing our goalkeeper for one match and I asked the coach to be in goal.I wanted to try to see how it worked. Since then I showed my skills. I enjoyed it, that was when everything started for me so I stayed in goal’.
Ospina may not have made much impact so far this season and is currently injured, but in the 26-year-old Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has a goalkeeper capable of great things.
During his time at Nice, Ospina established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in Ligue 1. If he is given the chance by Wenger, then he will certainly rise to the occasion.
