Pochettino sees midfielder as 'ideal January addition', Tottenham eye cut-price bid

Reports suggest that Tottenham want to sign Aston Villa star Fabian Delph in January.

Tottenham continue to struggle under new manager Mauricio Pochettino, with Sunday's 2-1 defeat to Stoke City leaving the club down in 12th place.

With four home defeats already this season and only four wins in the Premier League, the pressure is mounting on Pochettino - six months after he left Southampton for White Hart Lane.

As a result, reports suggest that the Argentine will now look to conduct a full scale overhaul of the Spurs squad, shipping out underperforming players and bringing in a new raft of stars to try and pull the club back up the table.

According to the Daily Mirror, Pochettino has earmarked Aston Villa star Fabian Delph as a potential target, with the January transfer window fast approaching.

Delph, 24, has really blossomed over the last 12 months, and his impressive displays under Paul Lambert have earned him a call-up to the England squad, and has even started the last few games on the left hand side of Roy Hodgson's midfield diamond.

Whilst he's become one of the pillars of the current Villa side along with Brad Guzan, Ron Vlaar and Christian Benteke, Delph's contract is set to expire next summer - and he's already turned down an extension worth £50,000-per-week.

That means that Villa are vulnerable to losing their star midfielder in the coming months, either in January for a cut-price fee or next summer for nothing.

Reports suggest that Pochettino sees Delph as the perfect addition to his midfield, with the former Leeds star possessing the necessary energy to add a spark to the Tottenham side.

A January bid could be on the way, with Daniel Levy allegedly ready to sanction Pochettino's pursuit of the England star.
