Manchester United play-maker Juan Mata has been speaking about his countryman Victor Valdes as the goalkeeper continues to train with the club.

In quotes published by the Daily Star, Mata said, “I speak regularly with Victor Valdes, he’s training with us.

“We’re waiting to see what his plans are.”

Those comments have led to suggestions that United are willing to offer the former Barcelona stopper a deal, although given his age and the presence of David de Gea, it remains to be seen how often Valdes would feature.

In other news, former United manager David Moyes has been named as the new boss of Spanish side Real Sociedad.

It is the Scot’s chance to prove his time at United was a one-off and you can be sure he is raring to prove his worth yet again following his outstanding spell in charge of Everton.

And finally, Robin van Persie has responded to claims he should hand over the captaincy of the Netherlands squad.

Guus Hiddink’s side are going through a tough patch but the United striker has no intention of passing the armband to someone else.

In comments published by, van Persie said, “I was chosen by Louis van Gaal on the basis of who I am and what I did and am doing. I don’t see why I should change.”
