The main reason why Lukas Podolski is still at Arsenal?

Lukas Podolski Pre FA Cup Press Conference

Arsenal forward Lukas Podolski says that there were no offers for him in the summer transfer window.

Arsenal forward Lukas Podolski may be a World Cup winner, but he is not one of the best players in the world.

In fact, the 29-year-old is actually surplus to requirements at the Emirates Stadium and is unlikely to re-establish himself as a first-team regular for the Gunners anytime soon.

Podolski has talent and had been on the books of German giants Bayern Munich, but for one reason or the other he has not quite ‘made it’ among the truly world-class players.

The Germany international is a charismatic character and is hugely popular among his teammates, but he is simply not that good to play week in and week out for Arsenal.

So why is Podolski still at Arsenal? Why was he not sold in the summer?

Because no club made an approach him.

‘There were no offers’, The Guardian quotes the former Koln star as saying. ‘In football you can’t sadly just go looking for a club but have to see what comes’.

Podolski has been used sparingly by Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger so far this season, and it is clear that the forward is seen as an ‘impact sub’.

Wenger signed Podolski from Koln in the summer of 2012 and said at the time that he has ‘a phenomenal record’ which ‘shows his quality as a player’.

The German star did feature quite regularly for Arsenal in the 2012-13 season, but he has since struggled for playing time.

It remains to be seen if any club makes an offer for Podolski in January. His current contract with Arsenal runs out in June 2016.
