Former Arsenal and Manchester United defender Mikael Silvestre has named Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer as the toughest player he has played against in his career.
Shearer is a footballing legend and one of the greatest players to have ever featured in the Premier League.
The former England international striker started his professional career at Southampton before moving on to Blackburn Rovers in 1992.
In 1996, Shearer joined Newcastle and was on the books of the Magpies until his retirement in 2006.
Shearer is widely regarded as one of the best strikers English football has ever seen, and Silvestre has admitted that he found it tough to play against him.
‘The toughest I have played against will be Alan Shearer in the EPL’, the former France international told HITC Sport. ‘He was physically very strong’.
When asked about the best player Silvestre has played with, he said: ‘Hard for me to pick the best as I have played with so many greats like Zidane and both Ronaldos’.
