Wright: I'm 'really frightened' to watch Arsenal's Nacho Monreal star play

Former Arsenal striker Ian Wright says Nacho Monreal gives him the jitters.

Former Arsenal striker Ian Wright wants to see an end to Nacho Monreal playing at centre-back, arguing he'd prefer Calum Chambers in the role instead.

Monreal is a left-back by trade, and has been forced into the role by Arsene Wenger thanks to a lack of cover for the injured Laurent Koscielny.

The Gunners have conceded five goals in the last two games, each coming in the second half of matches to Anderlecht and Swansea.

Wright told BBC Radio 5 Live: "He (Chambers) started the season pretty well, but I see him as a centre-half, I'd rather have a player who is comfotable there.

"He (Monreal) gives me the jitters. It doesn't happen for me whens he's playing, I'm really frightened. Even at left-back."

Chambers had been playing at centre-back previously, but it is the double injury to Koscielny and Mathieu Debuchy which has seen him deployed at right-back, with Wenger reluctant to use Hector Bellerin.

Monreal, for all the criticism, has not actually made any individual errors leading to any opposition shots, yet continues to look uncomfortable, and gave away the penalty against Anderlecht in midweek.

Arsenal won't be free of the unwanted dilemma just yet despite the international break, with Arsene Wenger admitting last week that Koscielny has only a 'little chance' of playing later this month.
