On this day: Wenger on 'nervous' Arsenal, Moyes on title race

Stories about Arsenal, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur all feature.

The final round of Premier League games before the latest international break has been and gone with some brilliant matches and performances for fans to mull over.

Chelsea have extended their lead at the top of the table, as Manchester City and Arsenal both dropped points while Southampton are also in a good position looking ahead to the Christmas and New Year period.

Here are some of the stories which were making the headlines on this day last year.

‘Wenger on nervous Arsenal’

Arsene Wenger criticised his Arsenal side for a nervous performance against Premier League champions Manchester United.

The Gunners lost 1-0 thanks to a header from former Arsenal striker Robin Van Persie.

“We were just too nervous in the first half. We haven't won for a long time here now. Once again it is a tight game that has been decided on a set-piece,” said Wenger.

‘Tottenham linked with Manchester United star’

Tottenham Hotspur were being linked with a move for Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez.

The Mexican was seen as a good potential January addition as the side looked to bolster their attacking ranks.

However, Spurs never went onto get him, with Chicharito joining Real Madrid on loan last summer.

‘Moyes on the title race’

Former Manchester United manager David Moyes said no side would run away with the Premier League title.

The Scot saw his side win against the Gunners and believed that his team could still retain the Premier League title after a difficult start. They finished seventh.

“I don't think anyone's going to run away with it. I think there [will be] a lot of ups and downs. It's a close-run league this year. There will be a few shocks,” Moyes told the BBC.
