It is fair to say that Arsenal made a very shrewd signing this summer, with the £35 million arrival of Alexis Sanchez.
The Chilean was told he was surplus to requirements at Barcelona this season after the arrival of Luis Suarez at the Camp Nou.
He has been in incredible form since his arrival and it is a mystery that Barcelona decided to let a player with this much talent leave the club.
But it was not just Arsenal linked with his signature, other teams were also said to be keen - including Liverpool.
It was rumoured that Liverpool wanted Alexis as a replacement for Suarez as the pair are certainly similar.
But Arsenal beat everyone to the gun in order to secure the Chilean. For the two former Liverpool players in the Sky Sports studio this afternoon, watching him in action for Arsenal, not getting Alexis was a real blow to the club.
The players in question were former striker Craig Bellamy and club legend Jamie Carragher.
And the former Welsh international admitted that he was 'desperate' for Liverpool to sign the player this summer:
"Being a big Liverpool fan you know me and Carra [Jamie Carragher] we spoke about it before. Desperate -wanted him to join Liverpool]. Honestly I mean when you hear the whispers you hear the rumours about how you have a chance of signing him. You just...
"I mean he is perfect. He is made for the Premier League. To be honest, with his ability, he could play in any league in the world. Everything our [Liverpool] game is about he is perfect for. I am just a huge admirer."
"Honestly. Obviously there is Messi there is Ronaldo, they're your main boys. But he is in behind them, in that group with Suarez, that is how highly I rate him."
High praise that was echoed by Carragher:
"The two goals that he gets at Sunderland come from him pressing. You see him closing down Wes Brown forcing Mannone into a mistake. It's because of him closing them down, he has that appetite.
"As you say Craig's mentioned Liverpool as well, it's obvious now, we have talked about it all season what they're lacking. That player like that up the top in Suarez, what he gave Liverpool, this is what he [Alexis] has given Arsenal."
Instead Liverpool have Mario Balotelli. The two simply can't compare...
