Tottenham star Jan Vertonghen on why playing Stoke is ‘better for us’

Jan Vertonghen has spoken ahead of Tottenham Hotspur's match against Stoke City this lunch-time.

Tottenham Hotspur defender Jan Vertonghen has been speaking ahead of Spurs’ match against Stoke City.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side are on a much-needed run of three consecutive wins and they will be hoping to stretch that to four when they host Mark Hughes’ side at White Hart Lane on Sunday afternoon.

Tottenham have had a mixed season to date, impressing in Europe and starting their Premier League campaign well, only to see their domestic form dip in recent times.

A win against Aston Villa last weekend means Tottenham will hope they have turned a corner and, speaking to the club’s official website, their centre-back certainly hopes that’s the case.

“We’ve won three games in a row now,” Vertonghen said. “We’re up again and we need another win."

But he knows it will not be easy against the Potters, although he suggested their change of style could suit the hosts.

“This is not the Stoke from a couple of years ago,” he added. “They try to play and that’s perhaps better for us. We like to play teams who want to come and play football as well.”

Spurs are ninth in the table going into the match while Stoke are currently 13th, two points behind today’s opponents.
