Has Brendan Rodgers simply wasted another £20 million on the centre-back?
So, after a poor start to their Anfield career, new signings are usually given plenty of support and allowed time to settle before they are properly judged.
But it usually helps when a player is young and new to the Premier League.
In Dejan Lovren's case, neither of those two factors apply. And that perhaps explains why Liverpool supporters are becoming increasingly fed up with the misfiring defender.
One statistic, meanwhile, will likely enrage the Kop even further.
|Team||Error leading to a shot||Appearances||Mins played|
|Daley Blind||Man Utd||2||8||720|
Indeed, as Opta data shows, £20 million has bought Liverpool a table-topping defender - but for entirely the wrong reasons.
After 11 Premier League games, the Croatian has made more errors (four) leading to a shot than anyone else in the top flight. And, surprise, surprise, it is his centre-back partner Martin Skrtel that is just behind him on three.
Why exactly did Rodgers sign Lovren, again? And why did he sell Daniel Agger to make way for him?
The 25-year-old has played every single minute of Liverpool's league campaign so far. But such is his poor form that maybe that particular statistic needs changing.
