Podolski jokes about Swansea prior to kick-off but hosts have last laugh

Lukas Podolski 3 Germany

Arsenal forward Lukas Podolski made a playful joke about Swansea City being in the Premier League prior to their match on Sunday.

Lukas Podolski likes to tweet, so it was no surprise to see the German international adding to his social media footprint by sending a message prior to Arsenal's Premier League match against Swansea City.

Posting a picture of himself and teammate Aaron Ramsey on Instagram the forward wrote '...So Aaron, explain to me again why we are in Wales to play an English league game?'

He ended with the hashtag 'confused' but he would end the day far worse than that after he witnessed his side go down 2-1 at the Liberty Stadium despite taking the lead through Alexis Sanchez.

Goals from Gylfi Sigurdsson and Bafetimbi Gomis gave the Swans the win and continued their outstanding home form.

As for Arsenal, the worry remains that they cannot keep a lead, having seen a three-goal advantage slip against Anderlecht just days earlier.

That is something Arsene Wenger is likely to have worked hard on but the north London side's defence remains an issue and it was emphatically punished by Garry Monks' men.

So now there is no doubt Podolski knows exactly why Swansea are in the English top flight.  It is because they deserve to be and because for now at least they are flying high and exceeding all expectations.
