Paul Dummet was just one of several star performers for Newcastle United today.
It goes on! Newcastle United's revival continued today as they defeated West Brom at The Hawthorns - a result that sees them go up to seventh in the table, just four weeks after being bottom.
There were plenty of fantastic performances today from the Newcastle players. Daryl Janmaat was simply sensational at right-back, certainly looking like being, perhaps, an improvement on Mathieu Debuchy.
Remy Cabella put in an improved performance while Ayoze Perez is really looking like a find.
But one that stood out once again was the defensive showing of Paul Dummett at centre-back. Usually deployed at left-back, the Welsh international switched inside because of an injury to Steven Taylor and Mike Williamson's lack of match sharpness.
And he was absolutely superb.
The 23-year-old local lad showed great maturity alongside captain, and goalscorer, Fabricio Coloccini today as Newcastle may have finally figured out that this is his best position.
He threw himself into tackles, looked strong against the likes of Saido Berahino and Victor Anichebe and had the turn of pace necessary for a modern day central defender. And in the air, he was flawless.
This might just be his best performance yet for Newcastle and centre-back may very well be his future.
The Newcastle fans thought so at least.
Here are some of the best reactions from Twitter toward the Welsh defender's performance...
Outstanding performance so well organised AP has 2 take a lot of credit dummett exc' at c/h shud stay there habid exc'not 1 bad performance— Jim (@jimw1892) November 9, 2014
Dummett's game is far better suited to central defence as his lack of acceleration damages his ability to contain fast wingers at LB. #NUFC— Adam Widdrington (@granddiamondwit) November 9, 2014
"And the day Paul The Bullet Dummett turned into Franco Baresi? I was there son" pic.twitter.com/exUSk9IEQi— Mike Edwards (@_MikeEdwards) November 9, 2014
No fan of Dummett at left back but as Centre Back top notch #nufc— Neil Robinson (@NeilRobbo1106) November 9, 2014
I hope this isn't just good form from Dummett. We want him like this all the time! Brilliant run of games for the lad! /Sam— Newcastle United (@Newcastle_FC) November 9, 2014
Paul Dummett's quietly having an absolute stormer today. He's so, so much better at CB than LB. #NUFC— Gabby Obaetan (@joshNUFC_) November 9, 2014
Strange how central defender Paul Dummett is playing much better in central defence.— JW (@footyramblings) November 9, 2014
How can Paul Dummett be such a liability at left-back and then look like a brick-wall playing centre-back? It baffles me. #nufc— Powelly (@Steve_Powell9) November 9, 2014
Dummett again looking a better centre half than left back, position plays to his strengths more than full back does, should keep him there— Liam Tiffin (@liamtiffin) November 9, 2014
