Former Spurs hero digs into ‘useless’ Tottenham

Gary Lineker

Gary Lineker had sarcastic words for his former team after another Premier League defeat.

Spurs crashed to another loss at home to Stoke City this weekend, with goals from Bojan and Jon Walters only met by a Nacer Chadli consolation, and a Kyle Naughton red card taking their total dismissals for the season to 4.

And former Tottenham star Gary Lineker pinpointed what has become a regular problem for the North Londoners.

The England hero remains a favourite at White Hart Lane, and often displays a smidgen of gentle favouritism on Match of the Day and Twitter, something that also extends to boyhood club Leicester City and other former teams, Everton and Barcelona.

On Twitter especially though, Lineker doesn't mince his words, and the fact that Tottenham have lost 4 of their 5 Premier League defeats, all home games, after their Europa League fixtures isn't lost on the former striker.

With Spurs currently joint top of their Europa League group it may well be that their European adventures represent the best bet of Champions League football next season.

The London club have a dozen games to navigate in Europe to reach that goal, with several of those fixtures against sides significantly weaker than what the Premier League has to offer.

Still yet to taste defeat in their 8 European and cup games, it is much stronger form than exhibited in England's top flight, where Tottenham have recorded just 4 wins in 11.

With 3 defeats coming against sides they would normally hope to beat at White Hart Lane: West Brom, Newcastle and Stoke City, there is clearly something up at Spurs, whether it's related to their games in Europe or not.
