Arsene Wenger criticises Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger criticised Alexis Sanchez despite his goal, did he have a point?

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has calmed the hype over new signing Alexis Sanchez by criticising his overall display against Swansea.

Quizzed about Arsenal's goalscorer's display in the 2-1 loss at the Liberty Stadium, the Frenchman had no desire to hype up the ex-Barcelona man.

He told "He scored but I think he didn't have the best games today."

Wenger may have been technically correct in doing so, when looking at Sanchez's display compared to his last four Premier League matches:

MatchGoalsTouchesKey PassesSuccessful Final Third PassesDribblesMins Played
Alexis Sánchez Sunderland vs Arsenal 2 98 2 32 2 90
Alexis Sánchez Arsenal vs Hull City 1 89 3 31 5 90
Alexis Sánchez Arsenal vs Burnley 2 85 3 27 9 90
Alexis Sánchez Chelsea vs Arsenal 0 71 1 16 4 79
Alexis Sánchez Swansea vs Arsenal 1 58 3 14 1 90

Sanchez made fewer final third passes and less dribbles than he has done in any of his recent league outings, also posting his lowest rate of touching the ball

His goal has to count in his favour though, and his number of chances created, three, is as good as in any period across the recent spell of matches.

Arsenal have to be thankful for his contribution, for he has done more than any body of late to give them a fighting chance of success, only for the defence to let him and the rest of the team down.
