Spurs morning news: Soldado on the fans; defender hails ‘excellent’ training method

A select round-up of the latest news relating to Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham Hotspur striker Roberto Soldado has been speaking ahead of his side’s match against Stoke City this weekend.

The Spanish international knows that Spurs must improve domestically in the weeks ahead and will be hoping to take positives from their victory over Aston Villa last weekend.

In quotes published by Tottenham’s official website the forward said, “We feel good away from home after the Villa game and now we need to follow that up at home in the league in front of our own fans.

“With our supporters behind us it makes things easier for us but it’s down to us as players to do our bit, because then it can push the team on further.”

In other news, Jan Vertonghen has been talking to Men’s Health about Mauricio Pochettino’s training methods since he arrived from Southampton.

“This year the new manager has started to do more and more in the gym,” Vertonghen said. “We’re not really focusing on anything in particular, just upping our workload.

“Some guys aren’t that into it – like the wingers who don’t really need big muscles – but for me as a centre-back it’s excellent and I’m already seeing benefits to my game.”

Questions remain over the long-term future of the Tottenham defender, but the fact that he is happy with Pochettino’s training methods can only be a good thing.

Now the trick is to ensure all that hard work pays off on the pitch on a consistent basis…starting against Stoke.
