Former Arsenal midfielder Paul Merson has urged Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino to give Harry Kane a start against Stoke City on Sunday.
England Under-21 international striker Kane has been in excellent form in recent weeks, scoring in the Europa League, the League Cup and the Premier League.
With Emmanuel Adebayor and Roberto Soldado both struggling for goals and with inconsistency, calls have grown for the 21-year-old to be handed a start in the league.
Merson believes that Kane should start for Tottenham against Stoke City at White Hart Lane in the Premier League on Sunday.
‘I went to the game last week at Villa Park and Tottenham were so poor – it was only the Christian Benteke sending off that let Tottenham in’, he wrote on Skysports.com.
‘I felt sorry for the Spurs fans because they took thousands up there but fair play to them because they stuck with the team even though they were so bad.
‘I think Mauricio Pochettino has to play Harry Kane in this game and I think Tottenham will win. I don’t like going against Stoke but they are not travelling very well’.
Playing at home will give Tottenham an advantage, but Spurs have been inconsistent so far and Stoke will know that they have a chance of picking up a win at White Hart Lane.
