Italian striker reveals admiration for Liverpool and previous approach.

Udinese forward Antonio Di Natale has admitted that Liverpool made an approach to sign him earlier in his career.

The 37-year-old has scored an impressive 215 goals in 397 appearances for the Italian side and his ability in front of goal clearly got the attention of Liverpool six years ago.

In an interview with SportWeek later published by Forza Italian Football, Di Natale said, “The only team I would like to play for is Liverpool. The stadium and the atmosphere is amazing.

“When they took (Andrea) Dossena from Udinese is 2008, they also spoke with me, but it came to nothing.”

Given his age there is no chance Di Natale will get his move in the future, but it is a compliment to the Reds that of all the clubs in the world, they are the only one the seasoned striker would have ever considered leaving Italy for.

It will never be known how successful the forward would have been had he followed Dossena to Liverpool six years ago, but in that time he has continued to rack up the goals for Udinese so it is likely he would have been a success.
