Nemanja Matic has commented on playing alongside Chelsea summer signing Cesc Fabregas.

Serbian international midfielder Nemanja Matic jokingly told the official Chelsea website that teammate Cesc Fabregas is one of the worst players he has played with.

The comments come in jest to the Spaniard's fabulous start to life at Stamford Bridge after making the controversial move from La Liga giants Barcelona.

The Spanish international was ultimately convinced by coach Jose Mourinho after the Blues boss promised to give Fabregas a pivotal role in his new-look Chelsea team.

After 10 Premier League fixtures to date, the former Arsenal man’s role in the side couldn’t be clearer as he has whipped up a remarkable nine assists while averaging 3.1 key passes per game.

The Blues currently sit at the top of the Premier League table, undefeated in their 10 matches and six points clear of reigning champions Manchester City.

The spine of the team has been formidable and the midfield partnership between Fabregas and Matic has deservedly garnished wide praise from a number of pundits and observers alike.

When asked what it’s like to play alongside the Spaniard, Matic - presumably lost for plaudits - decided to throw in a curveball by jokingly labelling him the worst player he’s ever played with.

“He’s terrible, one of the worst I’ve ever played with!” he joked. “Seriously though in every moment of the game he knows what he needs to do.

“He’s a great player; he’s a player with a lot of experience having played at Arsenal and Barcelona. We have a good relationship on the pitch and it’s easy to play with him.

“It’s very important to play a lot of games next to somebody, because as more and more time passes you get to know them better and better. We’ve improved together as a pair and I think that’s good for the team too because the midfield is such an important part of the pitch.”

Fabregas made 212 Premier League appearances with Arsenal during a previous eight-year spell in North London.

The 27-year-old was rumoured to be heading back to the Emirates during the summer, but such a deal was ruled out by Wenger who felt his best position was already occupied by Mesut Ozil.
