Liverpool morning news: Six could return against Chelsea; £37m man linked

A select round-up of the latest news relating to Liverpool

Liverpool take on Chelsea in today’s early Premier League kick-off, with the Reds keen to put their poor recent form behind them and the Blues eager to stretch their lead at the top of the table.

In early team news the BBC reports that Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard should start the match having been benched for the Champions League encounter with Real Madrid last week.

Daniel Sturridge is not yet available but Raheem Sterling, Dejan Lovren, Jordan Henderson, Philippe Coutinho and Mario Balotelli are also being linked with a return to the starting XI.

As for Chelsea, they are likely to play Diego Costa while Cesar Azpilucueta, Loic Remy and John Obi Mikel will all reportedly feature.

In other news the Daily Star reports that Liverpool have joined the race for Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho; a player with a release-clause of £37million.

The Portuguese international was heavily linked with Manchester United during David Moyes' tenure before Arsenal seemingly took the box-seat during the summer.

But now it is being suggested that the impressive defensive midfielder could be on his way to Anfield, which would be an outstanding piece of business by Brendan Rodgers.
