Manchester United returned to winning ways on Saturday with a narrow 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace.
It was Juan Mata who scored the winner midway through the second half from 20 yards at Old Trafford.
The Spain international replaced Adnan Januzaj on 63 minutes and scored what proved to be the winning goal just four minutes later.
Former Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Jamie Redknapp was pleased for the 26-year-old and told Sky Sports: ‘I am delighted for Juan Mata because to a certain extent he has been a bit of a scapegoat for United.
‘I think he is a quality player… He was a good substitute, he came on and he had the impact he wanted’.
Mata joined United from Chelsea for a transfer fee of £37.1 million in January, but his overall performance for the Red Devils has been average at best.
The former Valencia star struggled to make a huge impact in the second half of last season and has not always been played by manager Louis van Gaal so far this campaign.
It is widely believed that when all the attacking players are fit, Mata is the one to drop to the bench. However, against Palace on Saturday, the Spaniard showed that he can make an impact even as a substitute.
